The WOW Film Festival National Tour 2010 will go to destinations Australia wide. New WOW Tour destinations will be advertised as information comes to hand. The WOW National Tour offers eight curated screen programs including the finalists of the WOW Short Film Competition to our Tour partners.

WOW FILM FESTIVAL TOUR 2010: FROM THE START
RYE - Saturday 11th September 2010
The WOW Tour Australian Shorts Fiction (Program 1) screened at 7pm at the Rye Hotel on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. WOW was presented by the Rye Action group as a fund-raiser. Drinks and canapés were served and the audience heard about the Rye Action group’s Children’s Playground Project. Thank you to Michael & Maania Wittingslow, Katrina Humphrey and the Rye Action Group.
HOBART - Sunday 3rd October at the Salamanca Arts Centre in the Peacock Theatre, Tasmania. 4 separate programs screened: 2pm - Australian Documentaries, 3.30pm - Australian Shorts Fiction (Progam 2), 5pm - Australian Shorts Fiction (Program 1), 8pm - International Shorts Fiction. The Tasmanian film, ‘Next of Kin” produced by Wide Angle Tasmania screened and director / producer / writer, Rose Schramm attended. LAKE MACQUARIE - Friday 5th March 2010
The WOW Film Festival Tour began this year at the Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre, screening on Friday 5th March where the Lake Macquarie City Council presented WOW ( Australian Shorts program 1) to celebrate International Women’s Day. Susan Jenkins, Council’s Social & Cultural Planner, said that WOW has built a strong following over the last few years who really appreciate the diverse programming.
DUBBO - Saturday 6th March 2010
The Dubbo International Women’s Day Committee screened WOW (Australian Shorts program 1) at the Dubbo RSL to celebrate International Women’s Day on Saturday 6th March. The program was screened with a morning tea as part of the community celebrations. Jane Keys from Dubbo Community Health co-ordinated this event.

WIFT INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM SHOWCASE - Monday 8th March,
at AFTRS Theatre, Moore Park, Sydney.
What better way to celebrate International Women's Day than by celebrating the accomplishments of women in the film industry? WIFT NSW joined with women filmmakers worldwide to celebrate International Women's Day at the WIFT International 5th Anniversary Short Film Showcase. A selection of the best International short films from the last five years of the WIFTI Showcase & the AFTRS produced films, Plastic & Look Sharp were screened at the Australian Film Television & Radio School theatre. Jane Roscoe, WIFT NSW President introduced our guest speaker, Sandra Levy, acknowledging her acclaimed screen producer’s history as well as her role as the Chief Executive of AFTRS. Sandra’s speech was inspiring, detailing some of the achievements of women in the Australian screen industry yet reminding us that there are still impediments to be overcome in achieving better representation of women in this industry. The event was supported by AFTRS and guests had the opportunity to network while enjoying refreshments after the screening. And how wonderful to have a woman, Katherine Bigelow, win the Oscar for best director in 2010 .. very fitting that we held these Celebration events!
AUSTRALIAN SHORT FILM SHOWCASE - Tuesday 9th March,
(WOW Program 1) at NSW Parliament House Theatrette, Macquarie St, Sydney
The celebration continued with the special screening at NSW Parliament House theatrette of a selection from the WOW Film Festival Tour. This Australian Short Film Showcase consisted of comedy, drama, documentary and animation, most of them award-winning. Tania Chambers, CEO, Screen Australia, attended as a guest speaker and introduced the Hon. Jodi McKay MP, NSW Minister for Women who gave an opening address presenting an overview of the success and struggles of women in the screen industry. The Minister acknowledged the important role of WIFT NSW in highlighting women’s issues in the industry and in presenting the WOW Film Festival & WOW National Tour and the Media Mentorship for Women (MMW) Program. The audience had a Meet the Filmmakers opportunity with Michelle Blanchard, director/writer of The Party Shoes, Venetia Taylor, director/writer of Terror on the Northside and Sandy Widyanata director/writer of Plastic which were WOW Film Festival winners. The filmmakers gave interesting introductions to their films & mingled with the audience afterwards over a cup of afternoon tea.
Quite a few representatives of Peak Women's organisations attended; Women's Electoral Lobby, Women's International League for Peace & Freedom, National Council for Women & the Older Women's Network & Older Women's Network Film Group. We had student representatives of various Sydney Secondary Schools attending & TAFE students from Northern Sydney Institute. So from the young to the young at heart.
FEMINAS Film Festival: AUSTRALIAN SHORT FILM SHOWCASE - Thursday 11th March. (WOW Program 2 & 4) at the Tap Gallery, Darlinghurst, Sydney. Filmgoers settled in for this high quality film event in the comfortable upstairs setting at the Tap Gallery in Darlinghurst. While watching the WOW entertaining selection of Australian Shorts; comedy, drama and animation the audience enjoyed a glass of bubbly and mezze kindly donated by Moët Hennessy Australia & New Zealand, and the Almond Bar in Darlinghurst. Filmmakers Shelley Lauman & Genevieve Clay attended to introduce their films and chatted with the audience. This session was organized by Tracey Savage and Ester Harding and thanks to Lesley Dimmick from the Tap Gallery.

NAMBUCCA - Saturday 1st May 2010
At Nambucca in Mid North Coast NSW, the Living Carefully Program was our Tour partner and presented the WOW screenings Australian Shorts Program 1 & 2) at the Nambucca Cinema on Saturday 1st May. Some people in the audience travelled from as far as Bellingen over an hour’s drive to attend. The audience enjoyed the screening, a Q&A with Sil-Nyin, the WOW Festival Director and discussions about the films with an afternoon tea. Thanks to Anne Pouliquen and Jai Bonnefin for organising this event which was a community fundraiser for the Frresh Mobile Café Youth Project of the Nambucca Valley Youth Services.
YAMBA - Wednesday 12th, Friday 14th, Saturday 15th May 2010
Yamba Cinema, the Clarence Valley Council and the Clarence Valley Women’s Group Inc. were the event partners for the WOW Film Festival Tour to Yamba held from 12th to 15th May at the Treelands Drive Cinema in Yamba. The Festival Opening Night featured the Australian Short Film Showcase (Program 1), live music from the band, Boneless Pony and an art exhibition of local artists with the audience chatting to Festival Director, Sil-Nyin Cameron and enjoying wine and canapés hosted by Debbie McCredie, the owner of the Yamba Cinema. The Clarence Valley Women’s Inc. hosted the second night which featured guest speakers Cate McQuillen, the co-creator & director of Dirt Girl World, a Logie nominated live action animation series for pre-schoolers which has been acclaimed internationally and local filmmaker Lyn Hope, director of Bed. The closing night screened international shorts and the Australian feature, I Wish I Were Stephanie V. Laura Sivis, the producer, was in Cannes presenting the film to the international market. Thanks to Debbie McCredie from Yamba Cinema, Susan Howland & the Clarence Valley Women's Inc. and the support of Clarence Valley Council, Dan Griffin and Anne D'Arcy.
MISSION BEACH - Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th June 2010
The Stratvell Film Society presented the WOW Tour at Mission Beach, Far North Queensland at the C4 theatre on Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th June. The selection consisted of Australian Shorts (Program 1 & 2) and the feature films, "Four of a Kind" and "I Wish I Were Stephanie V". The festival was an opportunity for locals and visitors to Mission Beach to gather for the screening, enjoy refreshments and to learn more about the issue of conservation of the cassowary, an endangered native bird at C4, The Community for Coastal and Cassowary Conservation. POSTSCRIPT TO THE WOW TOUR 2009
WOW also screened to international audiences in December 2009 at the India International Women’s Film Festival and in October 2009 at the Lady Bug Festival in Gottenburg, Sweden. Selected films from the WOW Film Festival were screened at the International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) biennual conference held in Cambodia in November 2009.
International audiences are still accessing WOW vodules using the World Wide digital Distribution platform of YouTube. WOW Vodules recorded 2,453 views in Youtube statistics as at 14/2/2010. The views recorded from an international audience: USA, Asia, Africa, Europe, Middle East, South America. Leisle Grant, digi-vodule co-ordinator is preparing for the next WOW Digi-Vodule competition which will be opening for entries soon.
