AUSTRALIAN SHORT FILM SHOWCASE

The Hon. Verity Firth MP, NSW Minister for Women will be hosting the Australian Short Film Showcase screening at NSW Parliament House on Thursday 6th March at 1.15pm. Eight stimulating short films, both fiction and documentary, showcase the variety of Australian shorts made by women. Documentaries such as Nigger Lovers deal with bigotry and prejudice, while The Eye of a Lie explores the situation in Palestine . The mix of fiction themes covers self-discovery and family relationships in Custard, adolescent turmoil in Kindle, and the poignant conflict experienced by a child in a dysfunctional family in Sexy Thing. A thriller, Humidity Rising is contrasted with the comedies, Sex with the Ex and Hush. Two of the films are directed by upcoming Indigenous filmmakers. A provoking program to entice you to think and to laugh.

Selected programs from the WOW Film Festival tour will travel to venues throughout Australia such as the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne, the Film and Television Institute in Fremantle, the Deckchair Cinema in Darwin, Sun Cinema in Broome, to Wide Angle Tasmania, locations in Queensland such as Cairns and Innisfail and many regional centres in NSW such as Dubbo, Bourke, Coonamble, Deniliquin, Yamba, Byron Bay, Nambucca, Kempsey and Lake Macquarie.
